Designer, John Galliano for Christian Dior walked his designs down the runway during Paris Fashion Week. The gowns were large, elaborate, voluminous masterpieces with gold embroidery, matched with over sized earrings and extravagant hats.
The inspiration for Galliano's Dior collection, was John Singer Sargent's controversial painting of Madame X. Galliano also used elements of Gustave Klimt, Edward Munch, and Odilon Redon in the look of his gowns. Many of the dresses have Geisha qualities seen in the hats and wrap style.
Singer Sargent, Gustave Klimt
Madame X, The Kiss
Edward Munch, Odilon Redon
The Scream, Ophelia
The shoes were cut out at the arch which looked fabulous, but I'm sure made walking difficult.
Celebrities who had front row seats at the Christian Dior show were Dita Von Teese, and Diane Kruger.
