Dennis Basso - A Glass of Absinthe Anyone?

Dennis Basso created a genius collection for New York Fashion Week this year inspired by Parisian impressionist Edgar Degas. As we art history buffs know, Degas is known for his ballerina fetish (and wonderful taste in green liquor), so for the Basso's Spring '10 collection, we see cute ballerina like cocktail dresses! We love it! I know what I'm wearing for my next event (if I can find someone who copies this look).



Loving the mink bolero and the python bustier that turns into a floor length gown. The deep red lips with the clean makeup and side part. I may have to copy this look!

Ralph Lauren Answers Our Denim Dreams

The Ralph Lauren Spring '10 fashion show in Bryant Park was not something to be expected from the usual classic style. The inspiration for the collection was the Great Depression, which is fitting with all the talk of economy troubles.



The collection featured mostly denim to bring the worker and the farmer to life. We love the Denim suits with silk pants and the perfect accessory....the newsboy caps!

Diane Von Furstenberg - New York Fashion Week 2009

Diane Von Furstenberg had her show titled "Nomad" at New York Fashion week in the tents at Bryant Park. Von Furstenberg describes her show as an homage to Diana Vreeland, who taught us we could be goddesses and rock stars." The women represented in the fashion is a constant traveller, much like Von Furstenberg herself. The color palette represents the sunsets, the oceans, and the land of different areas of the world.











No one does prints better than Diane von Furstenberg, we loved the show.

Barbie Turns 50

The Mattel Barbie fashion show took place at New York Fashion Week and what an amazing show! There were looks created by 50 designers with some of the top models dressed up to look like Barbie. The models even looked plastic! There were three themes for Barbie on the runway: Retro dolls from the 50's and 60's, Malibu Barbie with big hair and tanned skin, and future Barbie. Here are some of the highlights.

Rachel Roy took inspiration from the first Barbie created in 1959.

Charlotte Ronson - New York Fashion Week 2009

Charlotte Ronson collection was definitely inspired by the everything goes feel of the 70's. The collection featured mostly leather combined with soft feminine floral patterned silks, lace, ruffles and bows. Key looks from Charlotte Ronson this year are cut outs, caged booties and leather. Color palette was black, charcoal, navy, cobalt blue, and burnt orange.

New York Fashion Week - Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta showed his typical red carpet worthy gowns this year, but he also added in swimsuits! Complete in this collection were the full pantsuit, gowns, and tailored skirts.

New York Fashion Week - Christian Siriano

Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, debuted his new collection at New York Fashion Week with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn sitting in the front row. Siriano showed mostly feminine ruffles paired with classic tailored pieces in greys with pops of oranges and greens.

New York Fashion Week - Donna Karan

Donna Karan had a slouchy draping theme to all of her pieces in New York Fashion Week. Some of the draping fabric was reined in with w structured jacket, but the dresses in particular were meant to hang loose. Metallics, and neutral colours were the palette.

New York Fashion Week - Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler featured the end of the disco era at New York Fashion Week. The key items included belted waists, puffy sleeves, and parachute pants.

New York Fashion Week - Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam designed some beautiful gowns for New York Fashion Week. Reds, pinks and purples in floral prints were the inspiration, as well as mixing prints and solids. The dresses were made interesting with the textures and pleating.

New York Fashion Week - Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera's show at New York fashion week was called 'Recession Proof', and the clothes were clearly meant for the red carpet. I can definitely see these designs at the Oscars! Herrera was not afraid of bright colours, but also was able to create some beautiful gowns in white and black. When looking for an evening gown for the spring, remember ruffles!
