Christian Dior Haute Couture Collection - Paris Fashion Week 2008

Designer, John Galliano for Christian Dior walked his designs down the runway during Paris Fashion Week. The gowns were large, elaborate, voluminous masterpieces with gold embroidery, matched with over sized earrings and extravagant hats.

The inspiration for Galliano's Dior collection, was John Singer Sargent's controversial painting of Madame X. Galliano also used elements of Gustave Klimt, Edward Munch, and Odilon Redon in the look of his gowns. Many of the dresses have Geisha qualities seen in the hats and wrap style.

Edward Munch, Odilon Redon
The Scream, Ophelia

The shoes were cut out at the arch which looked fabulous, but I'm sure made walking difficult.

Celebrities who had front row seats at the Christian Dior show were Dita Von Teese, and Diane Kruger.

Chanel Haute Couture Collection - Paris Fashion Week 2008

Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, chose to stay true to the Coco Chanel motto of "simplicity is elegance." Lagerfeld erected a 20 metre stone sculpture of a typical Chanel women's suit jacket. The models entered the runway from the sculpture and walked around it to model the clothes.

The inspiration of this years Chanel show was the innocence and nostalgia of every women's dream of becoming a princess.

Lagerfeld represented the nostalgia with black white and gray flowing dresses and suits. Each piece is feminine and youthful, heightening this little princess feel with pretty ballet flats.

Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Collection - Paris Fahion Week 2008

French fashion designer, Christian Lacroix, showed his Spring/Summer 2008 Haute Couture Collection for Paris Fashion Week.

The models walked down a red runway with a circus like backdrop, wearing gowns with a clear historical influence. Lacroix, being an art historian, choose to bring back the styles of 18th century French gowns with a modern twist. Lacroix uses bright colours matched with pastels and patterns to update the traditional look. All the models were wearing black and white striped stilettos, which with the combination of historical and bright colours, the show had elements of circus influences.

One small detail that Lacroix wanted the viewer to pay attention to was the blooming flowers on the dresses and on the models heads in the place of a hat.
